Ognoshu Zodiac

Astrology is a relatively new fad taking Ognos by storm! Below are the six birth signs currently recognized by their society; like any astrological/horoscope information, these are merely suggestions and characters may be as similar to - or different from - their birth signs as you like, however, society does tend to take these very seriously so your character may face some superstitions or stereotypes related to their signs. These signs or symbols may also come up in quests, events, and even in the types of prize(s) your character may receive!

  • THE RAVEN
    Date Range: December & January
    Closest Earth Equivalent: Capricorn
    Element: Spirit/Soul
    Commonly Associated Talents: Time/Energy/Space
    Color: Black, Dark Brown
    Lucky Numbers: 4, 8, 13, 22
Strengths: Responsible, disciplined, intelligent, dedicated, good-looking, charming
Weaknesses: Unforgiving, condescending, vain, pessimistic, arrogant, secretive
Likes: Tradition, music, quality work, admiration, respect
Dislikes: Criticism, rejection, being ignored, being forgotten, weakness
    Sims 3 Trait: Genius

Ravens are often cunning, disciplined, and secretive. They often have a small collection of carefully selected friends who share a common bond based on respect and understanding. Many are inclined towards careers in the Craftsman branch, and may excel at tasks that require dexterity and attention to detail. A Raven's self-worth is often determined by how independent and capable they are, and thus they have little time or patience for those who do not learn quickly or are afraid of hard work. Ravens often prefer quiet workshops filled with gentle music, where they can really focus on whatever task they have in front of them.

As for the sign itself, ravens are often associated with: visions and fortune-telling; transmutation/change; death; the moon; and mischief. Occult shops and morgues/funeral homes will often be decorated with raven symbology.

  • THE OWL
    Date Range: February & March
    Closest Earth Equivalent: Virgo
    Element: Air
    Commonly Associated Talents: Literary/Record
    Color: Grey, Beige, Yellow
    Lucky Numbers: 5, 14, 15, 23, 32
Strengths: Analytical, hardworking, practical, logical, detail-oriented
Weaknesses: Anxiety, overly critical of self and others, easily overwhelmed, workaholic
Likes: Stability, good health, books, cleanliness, learning
Dislikes: Lack of manners/rudeness, being the focus of attention, disruptive people/things
    Sims 3 Trait: Bookworm

Those born under the symbol of the Owl are said to be intelligent and hard-working, with an aptitude for learning. Many are inclined towards finding careers in the Academic branch, and may master languages quickly (particularly written languages). While keen enough to look at the big picture, they may get lost in the little details and can be easily overwhelmed by anxiety when confronted with too many things at once. Owls often prefer quiet and structured environments where they can lose themselves in their work without fear.

As a symbol, owls are often associated with: wisdom; silence; secrets; sight (especially into other dimensions/places); and discovery (of self in particular). Libraries and schools will often bear the owl symbol and/or have owl mascots.

  • THE CAT
    Date Range: April & May
    Closest Earth Equivalent: Scorpio
    Element: Water
    Commonly Associated Talents: Creation/Summoning
    Color: Gold, Red, Orange
    Lucky Numbers: 1, 3, 10, 19
Strengths: Creative, passionate, generous, warm-hearted, cheerful, humorous
Weaknesses: Lazy, dramatic, hot-headed, nosy, thinks before acting
Likes: Being admired, expensive things, bright colors, fun, good friends
Dislikes: Being ignored, being undervalued, being unappreciated
    Sims 3 Trait: Charismatic

Those born under the symbol of the Cat are overall fun and charismatic individuals who collect friends with relative ease. Many are inclined towards finding careers in the Artisan branch, and may have a distinct flair for dancing and painting in particular. Unfortunately, Cats often have a penchant for drama and their innate curiosity can get them in trouble. Cats often prefer lively, interesting environments where they can socialize with good people and fun things to occupy their time, but many also like having quiet spaces to retreat and recharge before the next big event.

Cats in society/popular culture are often associated with: femininity; cunning; balance; agility; and light-heartedness. Shops and hospitals (especially birthing centers) will usually have permanent cat residents or at least cat symbols/mascots.

  • THE BULL
    Date Range: June & July
    Closest Earth Equivalent: Sagittarius
    Element: Fire
    Commonly Associated Talents: Offensive, Elemental
    Color: Blue, Dark Red
    Lucky Numbers: 3, 7, 9, 12, 21
Strengths: Generous, idealistic, brave, humorous, loyal, takes action
Weaknesses: Blunt, impatient, undiplomatic, flaky, impulsive, domineering
Likes: Freedom, exploration, new experiences, physical activities, making decisions, leading
Dislikes: Clinginess, being constrained, boredom/inactivity, indecision, cowards
    Sims 3 Trait: Daredevil

Those born under the symbol of the Bull are often strong individuals with a firm sense of self and a passionate love for life. They are courageous, fearlessly standing up against oppression, and may see the world as a place just waiting to be conquered. Bulls are often inclined towards Explorer careers, which allows them to get out in the wild and really make a name for themselves; they can be adrenaline junkies, risking life and limb while chasing their next "high". Unfortunately their strong personality can be a bit overwhelming for those around them, and their blunt, impulsive mannerisms can make them seem rude or selfish to those who don't understand them. While Bulls can find the hustle and bustle of city life stimulating, they often require room to stretch their legs and get fresh air to maintain both their mental and physical health.

Society associates the Bull with: masculinity; resilience/perseverance; journeys; battle/war; and boldness. Explorer guilds and political centers will usually have bull symbology visible; politicians may also carry of the sign of the bull in the form of lapel pins, embroidery on their clothing, earrings or pendants, etc.

  • THE LIONESS
    Date Range: August & September
    Closest Earth Equivalent: Leo

    Lucky Numbers: 8, 11, 18, 22
Strengths: Resourceful, courageous, passionate, determined, loyal, private
Weaknesses: Distrusting, jealous, paranoid, secretive, violent
Likes: Truth/honesty, openness, being right, having the upperhand, teasing, sense of purpose
Dislikes: Dishonesty, feeling exposed, being betrayed, passive individuals, abstract ideas
    Sims 3 Trait: Brave

Lionesses are those who are passionate and assertive individuals who like to get things done; they are often firm believers in getting things done right the first time around, and may grow impatient with those who struggle with tasks they find easy. They are loyal to their close friends and family, but are usually exceptionally private people who keep secrets - their own and other's - as if it were a matter of life or death. Lionesses often do well in combat-oriented or justice-oriented positions. Unfortunately, Lionesses are often temperamental and may be quick to violence; it is not uncommon for them to get into physical altercations with people who have "wronged" them in some way, particularly when they are young. Lionesses often prefer either the anonymity of the deep city or the seclusion of deep wilderness; they really enjoy having a home that is not easily found (for example, a home that resembles an abandoned storefront) and are usually not the sort of people you can just "drop by" on.

Lionesses are often associated with: family; ferocity; strength; vitality; and fearlessness. You can find lioness symbolism in the family home, usually near a hearth or central gathering place; and in places where weapons are made, sold, or used.

  • THE HYENA
    Date Range: October & November
    Closest Earth Equivalent: Gemini
    Element: Shadow

Strengths: Tenacious, imaginative, emotional, persuasive, intelligent, investing
Weaknesses: Moody, pessimistic, suspicious, manipulative, insecure
Likes: Gambling, romance, easy money, good food, close allies, freedom
Dislikes: Strangers, injustice (against themselves), small spaces, criticism, rejection
    Sims 3 Trait: Lucky

Those born under the symbol of the Hyena are dual natured; they can be your best friend - warm, imaginative, and supportive - or worst enemy - moody, suspicious, and manipulative. Many are inclined towards law enforcement/protection or, on the flip side, criminal careers. They can be extremely loyal to those who have earned their trust and many are naturally empathetic. Unfortunately, Hyenas can also be scheming and mercurial, and may be particularly suspicious/paranoid when it comes to long-term or serious romantic partners. They often prefer warm, busy environments where there are drinks, dice, and opportunities in abundance.

Popular culture associates the hyena with: individuality; community; tricky/tricksters; play/fun; and games of risk or chance. Gambling dens and community centers will often have a hyena symbol/mascot.

Ognos Holidays

There are currently four major holidays celebrated in Ognos!

  • THE SILVER SIGIL
This celebration takes place each real life year during the months of December, January, & February.

How is it celebrated in character?
This is a time of celebration around family, life, and vitality. Small, thoughtful presents are exchanged at midnight on the last day of the year, followed the next day by a large party or ball dedicated to close friends and family. This is a very heartfelt time of year, and people everywhere deck out their homes in special decorations.

    What happens out of character?
Players will collect ribbons by completing tasks or quests, trading with friends, and from random prize drops. Then, at the end of each month, ribbons can be traded in for special items, potions, and opportunities with themes relating to Taim, family, or winter; you can also elect to "roll over" your collected items until the next month/end of February to buy larger rewards if desired, though you can't "stack" rewards from multiple years. Requirements to level your Taim are halved. You are more likely to get random bonuses during Taim-related quests and when posting in the South + West.

  • THE GOLDEN FLORUIT
This celebration takes place each real life year during the months of March, April, & May.

How is it celebrated in character?
Throughout the month, friends and family exchange small gifts, treats, and delicacies with themes related to eggs and flowers. On the final day of the month, there are massive parties with lots of dancing, drink, and general merriment. There is frequently a large spike in births about nine months later. ;)

    What happens out of character?
Players will collect eggs and/or flowers by completing tasks or quests, trading with friends, and from random prize drops. Then, at the end of each month, these items can be traded in for special items, potions, and opportunities with themes relating to prosperity, procreation/fertility, or spring; you can also elect to "roll over" your collected items until the next month/end of June to buy larger rewards if desired, though you can't "stack" rewards from multiple years. Positive procreation odds (conception, powers, health, etc.) are doubled, and negative procreation odds (disorders/diseases, curses, etc.) are halved for the whole period; you are also more likely to get random bonuses during procreation.

  • THE BRONZE MASQUE
This celebration takes place each real life year during the months of June, July, & August.

How is it celebrated in character?
Several smaller parties held throughout the season eventually lead up to a massive festival. There are firework displays, humorous plays, magic shows, festival games and foods, and much more. Everyone dresses up in a mask or full costume, and near midnight, everyone makes their way to the dancefloor. The final dances are always rowdy and confusing, and the person you start dancing with will rarely be your partner at the end (even couples usually get separated!). When the final song ends, everyone guesses who their dance partner is; if you guess successfully, you win a kiss, hug, or handshake. If you guess unsuccessfully, you must spin around six times to ward off bad luck in the coming year.

    What happens out of character?
Players will collect masks by completing tasks or quests, trading with friends, and from random prize drops. Then, at the end of each month, masks can be traded in for special items, potions, and opportunities usually with themes relating to Keepers, friendships, or summer; you can also elect to "roll over" your collected items until the next month/end of September to buy larger rewards if desired, though you can't "stack" rewards from multiple years. Requirements to level your Keeper are halved for the full period. You are more likely to get random bonuses during Keeper-related quests and when posting in the North + East

  • THE COPPER POT
This celebration takes place each real life year during the months of September, October, & November.

How is it celebrated in character?
This is a time of mystery, magic, playfulness, and community. Trickster gods walk the world, rewarding the good and punishing the bad (all while causing a generally obscene amount of chaos in their wake.) Acts of charity and community are much more common during this time of year, partially because of a belief that in sharing your abundance you welcome more in - and everyone can use some extra abundance before winter hits. The Veil is considered much thinner during this season, so sacred areas like ritual and burial sites, and graveyards, are nearly abandoned for fear of seeing or encountering something beyond explanation.

    What happens out of character?
Players will collect candies by completing tasks or quests, trading with friends, and from random prize drops. Then, at the end of each month, candies can be traded in for special items, potions, and opportunities with themes relating to Talents, the gods, or autumn; you can also elect to "roll over" your collected items until the next month/end of November to buy larger rewards if desired, though you can't "stack" rewards from multiple years. Requirements to level your Talents are halved. You are more likely to get random bonuses during Talent-related quests and when posting in the Middles.
